Theological Question

One of the elders at my church (James Oonk - Jason knows him) used the following biblical quotation at the close of a lengthy email he sent to several people inviting them to a poker night this Saturday. My question is, do you think this is a valid application of this scripture, or is he struggling with an old covenant mindset? This is from his email: "In closing I feel that it is only fitting to end with a word from the Lord. 'If men get into a fight with one another, and the wife of one intervenes to rescue her husband from the grip of his opponent by reaching out and seizing his genitals, you shall cut off her hand; show no pity.' Deuteronomy 25:11-12." What do you guys think?
